Walking In Perthshire

.

There are many walks around Birnam and Dunkeld and also around other areas in Perthshire.

  • Waterbury Guesthouse to Loch Ordie and back. This is quite a trek – 14 miles but the terrain is not bad. There is a good track that is fairly easy to negotiate. When you get to Loch Ordie you can walk round or otherwise like us you can sit down looking over the loch and eat your lunch. If you do this walk make sure you have well fitting walking boots. I had blisters for a week because my boots rubbed. (4-5 hours). You can shave two miles off this if you start in Dunkeld and park up in the car park.

  • Waterbury Guesthouse to the Hermitage. Walk along the Tay past the Birnam Oak and carry on past the bridge and through into Inver. At Inver you can stop at Bee Cottage and buy some honey (as seen on our breakfast buffet) and then on to the Hermitage. Make your way up to Ossian’s Hall, and walk through to see the view of the Braan Falls. If you are there at the right time of year you will see salmon jumping up stream - I have no idea how they make it against the power of those falls, but they do. You can carry on following the walk round or return back the way you came, whatever, you will end up back at Inver and walking back through the forest. This walk is not too demanding, but, it is also possible to drive to the car park and just walk to Ossian’s Hall from there. (2 - 2.5 hours).

  • Waterbury Guesthouse to Birnam Hill. This starts in Birnam by the Beatrix Potter garden and is well sign posted. This walk provides many stunning views over Birnam and Dunkeld with a few delightful surprises along the way. (1.5 hours)

Please use the contact us form to arrange a walking holiday. We will provide local maps and details of local walks. We can also provide packed lunches and flasks of soup. We can arrange guided walks if required (Minimum group of four.)
