Green Tourism

At the Waterbury Guesthouse we are commited to providing a good quality service while also minimising the environmental impact of our activities. A symbol of our commitment is our membership of VisitScotlands Green Tourism Business Scheme and our subsequent award of Bronze level by achieving 88% on our best thirty measures. This scheme provides accreditation and encouragement for tourism businesses to reduce the environmental impact of their activities. By encouraging sustainable practises it ensures the continued enjoyment of the environment of Scotland for future generations.

Some things that we have done to earn our Bronze Green Tourism award are

  • Replace lightbulbs with energy efficient bulbs
  • Recycle glass, plastic bags, paper
  • Fruit, vegetable and other suitable waste made into compost
  • Bought 'A' rated appliances where possible
  • Use cleaning products that are friendly to the environment
  • Grow our own herbs, courgettes and lettuce
  • Make and sell our own Jam and Marmalade using locally grown fruit where possible
  • Encourage birds and wildlife into our garden and surrounding area
  • Use some organic and free range produce

There are more measures that we will be implementing as soon as practically possible and we should raise our award to Silver at our next visit. If anybody has any practical advice, we would be more than happy to hear it so please email us using the contact form on the Contact Us page.
