Local Information and Directions
From the south - 13 miles north of Perth take the Birnam and Dunkeld turn off to the right.
After about one mile you will see the Post Office, Church and then the Waterbury Guest House on the right.
From the north - take the Dunkeld and Birnam turn off to the left. Take the first turning on the right.
This will take you past the Royal School
of Dunkeld, Garage and hotel all on the left.
Approximately 100 metres further on on the left next to the church.
Places to Eat
There are a few places to eat in the evening in Birnam and Dunkeld, with a choice of Indian Restaurants,
Hotels with Restaurant dining or Bar food and a music bar. Food is available until 9pm in most establishments
and a little later in some others. For daytime dining we have at least four tearooms or cafe in addition to
the evening availability. There is also a Fish and Chip shop although they are take away only.
Shops
In Birnam there is a small grocery store selling food, drinks, basic medicine, newspapers and magazines, batteries
and other grocery and household items. Usual closing is at 8pm (6pm Sundays).
There is also a Newsagents, Chemists and larger Co-op grocery store in Dunkeld.
There are also some excellent shops ideal for gifts and souvenirs in Dunkeld from clothes and textiles, antiques and art gallery shops, jewellery and books.
For those who have enjoyed the local produce available there is Dunkeld Smoked Salmon shop, the local Butcher,
Greengrocer, Delicatessen and Bakery all in Dunkeld and Dunkeld Honey available in Inver.
Entertainment
There are some venues for evening entertainment. The Taybank has organised and informal music nights -
bring your own instrument! Birnam Arts has a programme of events from opera to rock and panto to theatre.
The hotels may have diner dances or local events open to the public. There is a Concert Hall in Perth (13 miles)
or Pitlochry Festival Theatre (also 13 mile but in the opposite direction).
During the high season there are often outdoor events In Pitlochry and Crieff.

Edradour (smallest and very charming) - Pitlochry, Blair Atholl (couldn't find this claim to fame, but Bells, which they produce, is probably one of the most popular!)- Pitlochry, Glenturret (oldest!) - Crieff, Dalwhinnie (highest, 1073feet above seawater) - Dalwhinnie, Dewars World of Whisky (newest!) - Aberfeldy.

Trees
Perthshire is Big Tree Country and in Birnam and Dunkeld we have several trees of interest as well as others nearby. Europe's oldest tree, the world's highest hedge, Britain's tallest tree, the sole survivor from Shakespeare's 'Birnam Wood', Europe's oldest living thing (the Fortingall Yew est. 3000 - 5000 years old)...the list goes on.
